Durandii was first cultivated in France in the 1800s, and is one of the special clematis hybrids created by combining both integrifolia (a non-climbing Clematis) and large flowering clematis. It boasts some of the largest flowers we’ve seen on a non-climbing plant. Let it sprawl in the front of border gardens, or gather the stems on a tomato cage so that it looks like a giant bouquet. The blue-indigo color of the sepals around its bright yellow center reminds us of our favorite denim jeans, and its large, heart-shaped leaves make a striking green counterpoint.
