It is so rare to see a non-vining clematis with these wavy edges, and East River really gives its surprising flowers the spotlight. In addition to the wavy edges, the flowers are large and disk-shaped, open facing and side facing. These big flowers take up more room because East River is a compact plant, so you certainly won’t miss the show. The color is consistent, so you can expect this look throughout its growing season. You won’t see many gardens with a wavy edged non-vining Clematis, and you won’t see many with East River—it’s a hard to find variety we’re so excited and so lucky to add to our Clematis line. There are a few things you can do with East River. You could let it sprawl through a garden bed or clip it up. You might want to clip up a few of the lateral stems, and leave some sprawling, so you’ve got this gorgeous flowing display. Feel free to take some blooms in, too, for a cut flower arrangement. It’s beautiful in a vase and can be expected to last up to 10 days or even longer (Clematis are best cut when buds are about to open) . CLEMATIS ‘ZOEASTRI’
