This Clematis is a step in a new direction with modern hybridizing. It’s so different than what we’re seeing most hybridizers doing right now, so you can see why it’s Exciting. Clematis Exciting is a petite take on a classic. It is a compact plant with small to medium 3½-4″ flowers, but in that open presentation of a large-flowered clematis. Because it has these open facing smaller flowers, you can easily see both the unique reddish reverse with wide, chunky stripes, and those lovely large centers–highlighting the flowers best qualities. It’s compact enough to look tidy and beautiful in container planting. With the masses of flowers that appear on this plant, you’ll have plenty for the vase, where it looks beautiful, too. This is a strong Clematis, it’ll stand up well to North America’s heat and cold, putting on an excellent show for years. Send it up a trellis, paired with a taller Clematis such as Pernille, and sit back to enjoy the profusion of enchanting flowers.
