Some swear the tough, woody caudex resembles a turtle, but we just think it’s a super intriguing horticultural wonder. Either way, it dramatically sits atop the soil, sending roots down to anchor the plant securely.

Naturally found in the rich soils of Malaysia, Stephania thrives with little water in dappled sunlight. Plus, this fascinating plant novelty is exceptionally long-lived (50+ yea!) and can grow up to 25′ tall with vining stems. Tender to frost, Rotundifolia will happily grow in a container, and when given a tight fit, the caudex develops interesting twists, bumps, and folds. Enj!
