The plant hits a big crescendo in mid spring to early summer, with brilliant semi-double blooms on strong, straight stems. It’s an Itoh peony, the extremely floriferous intersectional from tree and herbaceous peonies, so you’ll have plenty for the garden and elegant arrangements. The plant is reliable, providing a lush green backdrop from spring to fall for many, many years. It’s very hardy and requires practically no maintenance once established. Itoh peonies are newer, and there aren’t many different varieties on the market. However, we’ve been working on a strong offering of the most unique Itohs we can find, and we’re proud to add Symphonie Pourpre to the selection. Paeonia itoh ‘Symphonie Pourpre’
Peonies have few requirements: give them a sunny well-drained location, plant 2-4′ apart, with the eyes (new buds at the crown) no more than 2″ below soil level and apply fertilizer or compost in spring. They take a while to establish, often 3 years before the first bloom—but the wait is worth it. They are heirloom quality. Let them grow undisturbed and they will bring joy to you and your loved ones through the decades.
