These wildly exotic and seemingly sinister plants are relatives of elegant Calla Lilies, tropical Elephant Ears, and equally unique Cobra Lilies. The extraordinary, pale green blooms are densely patterned with mahogany freckles and emit an unpleasant odor when they first open. The aroma beckons to flies, which promptly answer the call for pollinators, and just as quickly as it began, the smell dissipates, leaving the dramatic blooms to be admired for weeks. Incredibly easy to grow and happy to spread in shady spots, the trunk-like “petiole” supports the lush, palmate foliage and berry-shaped seeds pods that form at the base. Enj!
